Spring-time is coming up and what better way to celebrate the transition from those dark and cold nights to bright, cool evenings than looking at the ombré trend sweeping through 2018.

Ombré fashion has been taking over the beauty scene for quite some time now, with the focus having been on ombré hairstyles; luscious locks transitioning through various colours. From simple blonde-browns, all the way up to this beautiful rainbow look, we have been soaking up the ombré trend.

So, it’s about time that makeup caught up! We all know that blending colours is the way to create multidimensional looks, from eyeshadow shades transitioning smoothly into each other, to layering different colours of lipstick to make lips look fuller. And so we go out, buy 3 lipsticks and create 1 look. Then we’re saddened, though unsurprised, by our bank accounts each time. We create beautiful looks, accentuating the lips’ natural shape, but it’s just not cost effective.

Until now.

Smashbox’s Be Legendary Triple Tone Lipstick Range

Smashbox’s Be Legendary Triple Tone Lipstick, is perfect for those ombré looks we all so desperately crave. The promos all look amazing, but I wanted to test it out before recommending them. And the verdict? Well I got hold of the nude shade to see how it fared, and more importantly, whether it gave that ombré effect.

The nude lipstick has three distinct shades of pink/brown which would definitely work for all complexions. It has a comfortable formula, much like other Smashbox lipsticks, and was long-lasting. But did it create the ombré effect? Well you can judge for yourself!

The dark shade on the outside of the lips really accentuates their shape and the lighter shade highlights and makes lips look fuller. The reason the ombré effect works so well is because the three shades used are very distinct. They blend together on the lips, but they really are three separate colours, complimenting each other to create a fabulous illusion, achieved with one singular product.

An important note about these products is that they should be applied with care, and upside down on the bottom lip, to actually get the ombré look you need. This is not the kind of lipstick to be applied on the bus as precision is key to getting the look.

Overall, this product is nothing short of the answer to all our ombré-related prayers. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it gets the job done with one product, not four. It’s a definite win for me.

What about you? How do you achieve an ombré look?
